About Aspen Mesa Estates
Aspen Mesa Estates sits atop the historic Missouri Heights bench overlooking the Roaring Fork Valley, just northeast of El Jebel. The sweeping views of the Elk Mountain Range that define our community are the same vistas that drew homesteaders here in the late 1800s, when ranching families settled this high mesa in search of open land, clear skies, and a life shaped by the mountains. That heritage carried forward to the subdivision’s incorporation in 1968, when the original ranchlands were thoughtfully divided into lots that preserved the sense of openness and independence.

Today, Aspen Mesa Estates includes 109 lots ranging from one to seven acres, offering residents the rare combination of quiet, rural living with immediate access to the best of the Roaring Fork Valley. Within minutes, you can hike Basalt Mountain, fish the Gold Medal waters of the Roaring Fork River, or enjoy the restaurants, shops, and services of Willits Town Center. Positioned between Aspen and Glenwood Springs, the cultural, recreational, and wellness amenities of both towns are less than thirty minutes away. Amid these conveniences, Aspen Mesa retains the character that has always made Missouri Heights special: open pastureland, wildlife corridors, dark night skies, and long views. Our community values stewardship of land, water, and shared resources, and works to preserve the spacious, quiet, and scenic environment that first inspired settlement here more than a century ago, connected to everything that makes Colorado living extraordinary.

Aspen Mesa Estates offers a unique connection to nature, with no fences to separate us from the wild friends who visit regularly. Mule deer are our frequent guests, appearing nearly every morning and evening, flourishing on the native grasses and wildflowers. Foxes, raccoons, and bears also visit. It’s important to keep trash securely controlled to protect both residents and wildlife. Elk pass through occasionally, while elusive mountain lions and coyotes roam the surrounding areas.
Birdlife is abundant and diverse. Bald eagles soar overhead as they travel between nearby Spring Park Reservoir and the Roaring Fork River to hunt and nest. Lewis’s Woodpeckers and American Kestrels roost in our neighborhood trees, while Northern Flickers drop by year-round. Other common seasonal sightings include Grosbeaks, Orioles, Tanagers, Mountain Bluebirds, Nighthawks, Juncos, Great Horned Owls, and the usual songbirds, corvids, and hawks.
Our wildlife community enriches the natural beauty and spirit of Aspen Mesa Estates, reminding us daily of the importance of stewardship and coexistence with the environment. Hunting within Aspen Mesa Estates is not permitted, even with proper licensing on private property. Our deer and other animals are accustomed to people, making hunting less of a fair chase. Additionally, many residents value sharing the space peacefully with our wild neighbors and prefer activities that do not disturb them. There are many nearby hunting locations outside the HOA boundaries.
Aspen Mesa Estates observes quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. to preserve a peaceful environment for residents and wildlife alike. We encourage minimizing noise during these hours and respecting neighbors’ tranquility.
Our community also follows dark-sky practices by avoiding leaving outdoor lights on all night and using downward-facing fixtures that prevent light pollution and spillover onto neighboring properties. These efforts protect nocturnal wildlife and maintain our stunning night skies, where residents have been lucky to witness meteor showers, comets, the aurora borealis, and view deep-space objects.
